Unlike robots.txt, which controls crawling, ai.txt is about usage permissions. Like llms.txt, it's a convention rather than an enforced standard.
To actually block AI crawlers, use robots.txt rules for their user agents.
Why it matters when you launch
If you want AI assistants to recommend your product, make sure you're not blocking their crawlers and that your usage policy permits citing you.
