About Topaz

Topaz is an open-source Azure emulator that runs many Azure control- and data-plane services locally from a single binary. It supports Storage, Key Vault, Service Bus, Event Hub, Container Registry, RBAC, Microsoft Entra ID, Managed Identities and more. Topaz implements ARM deployments so you can use ARM, Bicep, and Terraform (azurerm) templates locally — in CI or offline — with a single command. No Azure subscription required; works on macOS, Linux and Docker.

Key Features

  • Single binary emulator covering Storage, Key Vault, Service Bus, Event Hub, Container Registry, VM/Networking control plane, and more
  • ARM/Bicep and Terraform (azurerm) deployment support for testing real infra templates offline or in CI
  • Emulated Azure RBAC, role assignments, Microsoft Entra ID flows, and managed identities for secure-by-design testing
  • One-command start and CLI health checks (supports macOS, Linux, Docker); no Azure subscription required
  • Bundled control- and data-plane APIs so you don't need multiple emulators or manual mocks

Who is this for?

Developers and teams building, testing, or learning Azure services and infrastructure-as-code locally (ARM/Bicep/Terraform), and CI environments.
